Studio 54 in design....taking elements from the most famous nightclub for trend

There was an interesting spread - not well written - but interesting - in Vogue this month about the new disco appearing on the catwalks. I say not well written because the article descended into talking about hot new DJs instead of hot new collections.....
It talked about Studio 54, the legendary nightclub. There are only a handful of very famous nightclubs that have existed during different decadess - everyone knows what Studio 54 is. You don't need to be told. The writer of the piece, I can't recall her name and the article isn't in front of me! - wrote accurately about the shift in disco apparel amongst designers. If Gucci, Marc Jacobs and Topshop Unique started the trend for 70s inspired dresses back last summer (think of the flowing jewel colored dresses that Gucci designed that were everywhere and all over Florence and her machine) then there are a wave of new designers pushing the trend more towards the underground disco days of the late 70s almost early 80s.
There are certain brands for which play has always been a factor in their designs - Meadham Kirchoff for example - but this season these designers excelled with glitter, sequins, acids and playful references to the days of disco using cosmetics. I mean even Stella McCartney used an intense purple mascara on her model's lashes - google it - I must know where that mascara came from! The only thing to do for proper inspiration is to go back to the era that was - look at the pictures from Studio 54, the people like Andy Warhol, Debbie Harry, Bianca Jagger, Mick Jagger and the array of beautiful people who frequented the club, the fashion pours out of these pictures. It's the best way to get a feel for this trend.
