Pop star Selena Gomez has somehow unlocked the key to Instagram because she is the most followed celebrity on the platform. That could be because she has had some unforgettable Instagram moments.
But now it looks like Selena Gomez is going a different direction with her account this year. She unfollowed hundreds of people recently including many celebrities. She then changed a few more things about her account and has come up with an interesting post this new year.
So what exactly is going on? Her reconnection with Justin Bieber through brunches, bike rides, and hockey games might have something to do with it. After her breakup with The Weeknd, the two have been hanging out a lot lately and they are giving love another shot.
But Gomez's family members aren't exactly thrilled that they are seeing each other again, and it could be why she has changed her account. Here are seven things we know about her Instagram purge.
1. Gomez went from following 300 people to 37
It's a new year, and it looks like the singer is trying to declutter her Instagram account. She made headlines for going from following over 300 people and whittling it down 37 people. That's not the only change she made to her account to make it more personal either.
2. She changed her Instagram icon to her mother's face

It seems like the young star has been reflecting on her life and family a lot lately, even with her new posts on Instagram.
3. She posted a photo of her childhood home
On Jan. 7, 2018, Gomez posted a photo on the steps of her childhood home.
She wrote in the caption:
The home I grew up in, from birth to 13… (no one was home when I knocked this time lol) I visit this place every chance I get. In many ways it very well could have been better than my life today, but I'm grateful for a voice that can enable change today. Even when I don't know how to do it well or actually want it. I love you Grand Prairie. Thank you.
4. Some celebrities did make the cut from her Instagram purge
Although many celebrities are no longer followed by Gomez, many of her famous friends are. That includes Jessica Alba, Francia Raísa, Amy Schumer, Julia Michaels, and Taylor Swift.
She is also following several Selena Gomez fan accounts.

The one that might be disappointing is Lovato, considering the two were childhood friends, and although they had a falling out, Lovato has some kind words in support of Gomez after her surgery.
6. Gomez's mother was recently hospitalized

Her mother, Mandy Teefey was voluntarily hospitalized after she reportedly got into a fight with her famous daughter about being romantically involved again with Justin Bieber, according to TMZ.
7. Teefey has since checked out of the hospital
She has since voluntarily checked out of the hospital. "It's been a stressful time for Mandy and she made the decision herself to go to the hospital and make sure everything was okay," a source said according to People. "This wasn't just about Justin."
However, the mother and daughter have reportedly been so much at odds lately that they also unfollowed each other on Instagram.
